PREVENTION, TRAINING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
It is an acknowledged fact that many of the pathologies existing in South African communities are linked to substance abuse.
The Organisation renders services in 16 Magisterial Districts in the eThekwini North, South and iLembe Regions across 10 community-based sites demonstrating our commitment to making our services more accessible to disadvantaged and rural communities. These services are aimed at educating and empowering society on matters concerning alcohol and drug abuse and its negative impact on society.
- TADA / YADA
- Teenagers Against Drugs (TADA) & Youth Against Drugs (YADA) – a peer educator support group within schools/tertiary institutions, conducted by teenagers/youth for teenagers/youth, accredited 8 session training program unique to Sanca is provided to interested groups of teenagers/youth and continued support and guidance once groups are operational
- Prevention & Awareness
- Community Awareness and Prevention programs that are accurate, factual and well researched are aimed at schools, tertiary institutions, industry and the general community
- Training
- Capacity building and Training for professionals in the field including educators, social workers, nurses etc.
- Training , capacity building and empowerment at all levels ranging from target groups in the deep rural areas through to highly sophisticated management courses in industry
- Training programs for special groups such as parents and caregivers
- Services are provided in the North, South and Ilembe regions
All of the above services are offered to
educational institutions, NGOs, CBOs and FBOs, Companies/Organisations, Professional Groups, State Departments, Religious Organisations, & Other interested groups
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)
It is defined as a disorder causing growth deficiencies, irreversible mental retardation, physical and psychological abnormalities of the unborn child whose mother consumes alcohol
The disorder is permanent.
- Training on FAS for professionals in the field such as nurses, social workers, family-planning clinic personnel, educators
- Training programs for special groups such as parents and caregivers
- The SANCA National “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW” training manual is utilized and covers various aspects of FAS in detail that is accurate and factual.
- • Community Awareness and talks on FAS are provided at schools and tertiary institutions targeting high risk groups such as teenagers, young women, pregnant women.
